Manhunt launched for ‘jealous’ killer dad

POLICE have intensified the manhunt of a Zimunya man, Simon Sikireta who last Tuesday allegedly brutally murdered his daughter’s boyfriend in cold blood by stabbing him several times in the stomach with a knife.

Sikireta who was allegedly having an incestuous relationship with his 16-year-old daughter disappeared soon after committing the spine-chilling crime which left villagers shell-shocked.

Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda also pleaded with the Zimunya community and anyone with information leading to Sikireta’s arrest to contact their nearest police station.

He also urged people to always alert police on crimes being committed in their respective communities through suggestion boxes, in person and through WhatsApp facilities among other means.

According to investigations conducted by this publication, Sikireta’s incestuous relationship with his daughter was a public secret, but no villager dared to report the abomination to police.

“We are working tirelessly to bring Sikireta who is still at large to book. This is a serious offence and we believe wherever he is, he can be a threat to villagers’ peace.

“We are, however, working in unison with the public and we urge anyone with information to contact any nearest police station.

“It is quite unfortunate that villagers were aware of the incestuous relationship as well as his pilfering shenanigans, but we were oblivious of such.

“People should feel free to contact us physically, through suggestion boxes, or through WhatsApp facilities among other means,” Asst Insp Chananda said.

The late 17-year-old Knowledge Putsai was doing Form Three at Munyoro Secondary School in Zimunya.

As detectives investigated the murder, which was committed at the suspect’s homestead, they came across an assortment of allegedly stolen house-holds items that were hidden in one of the rooms at the compound.

In no time, neighbours and other villagers thronged the homestead identifying some of the stolen items as theirs.
