Manhunt ongoing for heist gang

SouthAfricaPoliceCarJOHANNESBURG – Mpumalanga police were on Thursday still searching for a large group of people who staged a cash-in-transit heist on the Verena to Witbank road. On Tuesday, a large armed group sped out from their hiding places in the surrounding mountainous terrain around 07:00 and shot out the tyres of an SBV van carrying money, police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi said.

They took the money and disappeared. The guards were not injured.

Police found two firearms and cartridges on the scene afterwards.

They were told that the gang wore police and the defence force equipment, but not the actual uniforms.
