THE Manica Post’s scribe, Liberty Dube, has been honoured with the Arts and Entertainment Reporter of the Year Award at the National Journalism and Media Awards (NJAMA) ceremony held in Harare on Thursday night.
The event, which celebrated excellence in Zimbabwean journalism, was attended by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, while the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, was the guest of honour.
Held annually, the NJAMA Awards recognise outstanding achievements across diverse media disciplines, including investigative reporting, developmental journalism, photojournalism, environmental and data journalism, and public interest storytelling.
Running under the theme: “Impact and Information Integrity: The Power of Truth,” this year’s event attracted leading figures from the media and business sectors.
Dube’s winning article: “Reminisce: The Legacy of Dangamvura Entertainment,” was praised for its rich storytelling and strong sense of place and community.
According to the judges’ citation, the piece vividly captures how Dangamvura, a suburb in Mutare, evolved into a vibrant cultural and entertainment hub. It blends historical depth with personal and social insight — recounting the rhythm and spirit of entertainment from the 1970s through the 1990s.
Using evocative details and sensory language — from the sounds of mbira and drums to the aroma of grilled meat and roasted maize — Dube’s story brings the past alive in a way that resonates deeply with readers.
Speaking after receiving the award, Dube expressed gratitude to those who supported his journalistic journey.
“I am truly humbled and honoured by this recognition. I would like to thank my family for their unwavering moral support, my colleagues for their encouragement and my Editor, Mr Cletus Mushanawani, for his invaluable guidance and mentorship,” he said.
