MANICALAND Baseball Association has embarked on developmental programmes to revive the sport in the province. The association is on a recruitment drive for more teams to play in the league, but bemoans lack of training equipment.

Manicaland Baseball secretary, Collin Gando, said that they would attach some provincial players in schools and form school clubs.

Gando said: “We will attach some of the senior players to certain schools to form school clubs. This will ease pressure on us since more players and clubs will be formed. The schools will also benefit from the experienced coaches and umpires.”

Gando said that they were aiming at six or more clubs to join their league which is entering its second week.

The association did a similar programme way back in 2003 and it yielded fruits.

They started off as three clubs, but by 2005 three more clubs joined in.

“We are aiming at six or more clubs to join. The main challenge is that of training equipment since each player has to wear fielding gloves which are hard to acquire,” he added.

Meanwhile, Red Sox and White Sox baseball clubs deservedly share the spoils after clashing in a league match last Saturday at Sakubva High School. A commendable crowded attended. The matches marked the beginning of the 2016 Baseball season. It was 10 all for Red Sox and White Sox in seven innings. Red Sox played again against Falcons and drew 13-all.

The match between Falcons and White Sox was postponed. This weekend White Sox will take on Falcons at Sakubva High School. Red Sox will play against Red Sox at the same venue.
