EXCELLING businesses and individuals in Manicaland were last week on Friday honoured in various categories at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) regional business awards held at a local hotel.
Youthful business mogul, Mr Scot Sakupwanya of Betterbrands scooped the businessman of the year accolade, and was trailed by Mr Resistance Mundembe and Mr Jonah Dhlakama, who were first and second runners up respectively.
Mrs Judith Shadaya won the businesswoman of the year award, while Mr Gwinyai Mutsongodza of First Class Group of Schools scooped the Lifetime Achievement award.
Plan International won the sustainable development goals award, while Princeton Institute scooped the best emerging business award.
Verify Engineering emerged winners in the best innovation category.
In the tertiary institution category, Mutare Teachers’ College emerged winners, while Africa University and Mutare Polytech were first and second runners-up respectively.
Mr Noah Taguta was the sole winner in the rural businessman of the year category.
Speaking at the event, Nash Paints director, Mr Tinashe Mutarisi urged businesses to transform economic realities into market opportunities.
“In today’s rapidly changing global economy, the ability to transform economic realities into market opportunities is critical for success.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the global economy, and Zimbabwe has not been immune to its effects. However, even in the face of these challenges, there are opportunities to be found.
“By transforming economic realities into market opportunities, we can create new value, build resilience, and drive growth in the Zimbabwean economy.
“One example of this is the rise of e-commerce.
“The pandemic has accelerated the shift to online shopping and digital payments, thereby creating new opportunities for businesses that can adapt to this changing landscape,” he said.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokhuthula Matsikenyere said: “I want to remind businesses that when we say “Zimbabwe is open for business” or “Manicaland is open for business”, this does not only apply to foreign investment, but to you as well.
“You must be able to access opportunities without any limitations so that as a country and as a province we can unleash your energy to create a better and prosperous Zimbabwe.”
Winners interviewed said they felt honoured.
