IN bid to achieve the minimum target of a 25 percent reduction in losses to veld fires in 2021, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) Manicaland has collaborated with various stakeholders in the province to intensify veld fire management awareness campaigns.
Manicaland is among the provinces at extreme risk of veld fires alongside Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central and Mashonaland West.
EMA provincial manager Mr Kingstone Chitotombe said awareness campaigns have already been carried out in several parts of the province, mostly in farming and communal areas where veld fires usually occur.
Zimbabwe is in a high risk category of 65,2 percent vulnerability to veld fires due to the heavy rains received during the 2020/21 season.
