Manicaland campaigns against GBV

MANICALAND Province celebrated this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence amid calls by stakeholders and communities to step up efforts to eradicate the scourge and create a safer environment for women and girls.

This year’s commemorations were held at Chitenderano Primary School in Makoni South and were graced by various Government departments and civic society organisations. Guest speaker at the commemoration, Diamond FM station manager and chairperson of the Manicaland Provincial Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Committee Mr Leander Kandiero said survivors of gender-based violence should be assisted to regain lost pride, self-respect and confidence.

“As most of you know, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence are a global campaign, indicating the seriousness of the problem before us,” he said. The ultimate goal of this campaign is to end gender based violence, especially on girls and women.

“It is also time we seek to provide an ear to survivors of gender based violence with the hope of restoring their obviously lost pride, self-respect and confidence and at times trust in human beings.

“It is a fact that many have lost their sanity, lost body parts, have been seriously injured, while some have lost their lives due to gender based violence. This must come to an end.”
