THE dates for this year’s Manicaland Classic Body-building contest have been announced.
The annual event will return to the radar, after a two-year sabbatical.
Manicaland Body-building Fitness Association vice-chairman, Simba Dube, said the event will be held on November 27, at Golden Peacock Hotel, in Mutare.
It was last held on August 31, 2019, at the Crocodile Motel, Rusape, where there was a huge turnout.
“We are looking forward to hosting the third edition of the annual Manicaland Classic Body-Building contest at Golden Peacock on November 27,’’ said Dube.
‘’The event is returning to the calendar, after we were affected by Covid-19 last year, and we could not hold it.
‘’The contest will have several categories, like the Under-23 senior men, Junior Under-23, men’s physique, Bikini Fitness, among others.
“Before the national lockdown, we have been having a lot of activity but only at provincial level.
‘’We have decided to up the gear, and have a national event, which is recognised by the Body-building Federation.”
The Manicaland Classic is expecting a good field of more than 30 athletes.
“The contest is coming at the right time, as we are giving the athletes ample time to prepare, so that they get their requirements in place,’’ said Dube.
“We are encouraging athletes to start preparing for the big event and we are hopeful they will get vaccinated, so that we lead by example, as body-builders.
“We support the Covid-19 protocols, and we will support every initiative to curb Covid-19, and we also call upon corporates to come on board, so that they support us on the day.
“There should be some good prizes as athletes had gone for over a year, without a major contest, so this should work as a motivator, through attractive prizes.’’
The Manicaland Classic will come barely a week before the Harare Classic, set for Zimbabwe College of Music, on December 4.
