LOCAL authorities in Manjcaland have been applauded for setting the pace in waste management after initiating Enviromental Action Plans with detailed strategies.
In his keynote address during the monthly National Clean-Up day held at Chikanga Spar business centre in Mutare, ruling Zanu PF Vice President and Second Secretary, who was the guest of honour at the event, Cde Kembo Mohadi, urged other local authorities around the country to emulate their counterparts in Manicaland.
He praised Marymount Teachers’ College for running a waste management project.
“I am impressed that five of your local authorities in the province have initiated Environment Action Plans with detailed waste management plan. This is indeed commendable. That is the way to go and I want to call upon all other local authorities to emulate your good work.
“In line with Education 5.0 that the Second Republic has introduced, I want to commend Marymount Teachers’ College for taking the initiative to run a waste management project whose impact has been felt at the SADC regional level. We therefore wish to congratulate Marymount Teachers’ College for placing Zimbabwe in the limelight,” said Cde Mohadi.
Several senior Government and ruling Zanu PF party officials graced the clean-up campaign including Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Nokuthula Matsikenyere as well as Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Mike Madiro, who is also Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairman.
Other stakeholders who took part in the exercise include church organisations, private and State-owned companies such as ZCDC and Allied Timbers, ruling Zanu PF party members, residents of Chikanga suburb as well as Manica Diamonds Football Club.
