The hosting of the Sanganai/Hlanganani Kumbanayi Tourism Investment Forum in Manicaland stands as a resounding affirmation of the Second Republic’s commitment to placing tourism at the heart of Zimbabwe’s economic transformation agenda, in line with National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and the ambitious target of becoming an upper middle-income economy by Vision 2030.

Addressing delegates at the high-level event investment forumin Mutare, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Manicaland Province, Advocate Mischek Mugadza, said the forum — running under the theme “Unlocking Tourism Investment Opportunities for Local Economic Development” — is not merely a convening of stakeholders, but a strategic signal of Zimbabwe’s intent to integrate policy, investment, and community engagement in advancing inclusive, sustainable growth.

“Devolving tourism development is not just a theme; it is a call to action. It means empowering provinces like ours to become engines of growth, innovation, and sustainable development,” he said.

The forum was a precursor to the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo which kicks off tomorrow in Mutare.

Advocate Mugadza underscored that the theme speaks directly to the Devolution Agenda, which prioritises grassroots participation and economic empowerment of local communities through tourism.

“This theme could not be more fitting for Manicaland, a province richly endowed with natural, cultural, and human capital waiting to be transformed into tangible economic value,” he said.

“It speaks directly to the Government’s Devolution Agenda, where investment is not just about infrastructure, but about empowering local communities, creating jobs, stimulating entrepreneurship, and ensuring that tourism revenues circulate within our districts.”

The Minister hailed the choice of Manicaland as host province, describing it as a reflection of Government’s recognition that provinces are not peripheral players, but core drivers of national economic growth.

“Hosting this event in Manicaland is a recognition that provinces are engines of growth, and that sustainable tourism development must be inclusive.

“As a host province, we take pride in being the launchpad for these opportunities, offering investors and partners a platform to co-create prosperity with our people.”

The event, organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), forms part of the broader Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi Expo — now firmly established as Africa’s premier tourism marketplace, showcasing the continent’s tourism assets and facilitating serious business-to-business engagement.

Highlighting the province’s strategic position within Zimbabwe’s tourism ecosystem, Advocate Mugadza said Manicaland is uniquely placed to unlock both domestic and regional tourism value chains.

“Manicaland Province occupies a unique and strategic position in Zimbabwe’s tourism landscape and offers unparalleled opportunities.

“The Province is the gateway to the Eastern Highlands and a cross-border province, linking Zimbabwe directly with Mozambique and the wider SADC region.

“This offers immense potential for regional tourism circuits, seamless movement of tourists, enhanced trade, and easier access to international markets through the Beira Corridor.”

He painted a compelling picture of the province’s vast tourism potential, highlighting iconic destinations such as Nyanga, Vumba, and Chimanimani, and positioning the city of Mutare, affectionately known as Kumakomoyo, as a natural jewel.

“Our comparative advantage lies in the diversity of attractions — from the misty mountains of Nyanga, the pristine forests of Vumba, to the majestic waterfalls and cultural heritage of Chimanimani.

“This city of Mutare, fondly known as ‘Kumakomoyo’, earns this endearing name from the vast scenic mountains that cradle the city in beauty and majesty. These rolling ranges are more than just a backdrop — they are the heartbeat of the city, shaping its character and offering breathtaking panoramas that captivate every visitor.”

Advocate Mugadza extended a direct invitation to both local and international investors to take advantage of the province’s vast potential, robust policy framework, and the enabling leadership of the Second Republic.

“Manicaland is not just a tourist destination. It is a strategic investment hub where natural beauty, cultural heritage, and economic opportunity converge.

“Manicaland is open for business, the policy framework is robust, and the leadership of the President, His Excellency Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, provides strategic guidance for sustainable growth.

“Here is a unique opportunity to shape the future of tourism in Manicaland and across Zimbabwe. Your partnerships here will not only yield returns but will also uplift communities and preserve our heritage.”

The minister had call to action for all stakeholders to rally behind the vision of building a modern, inclusive tourism sector.

“As Government, we stand ready to facilitate, support, and partner with investors who share our vision of building a vibrant tourism economy that uplifts communities, protects our environment, and drives Zimbabwe towards Vision 2030.

“Let us therefore seize this opportunity, invest in Manicaland, and together write a new chapter of growth, innovation, and prosperity.”
