MANICALAND recorded the highest number of malaria cases, with a total of 5 884 out of the 9 755 cases recorded nationwide, disease surveillance national Week Seven report has revealed. According to the weekly report released by the Ministry of Health and Childcare, the country recorded a total of 12 malaria related deaths in Week Seven.
“A total of 9 755 malaria cases and 12 deaths were reported this week.
“Of the cases reported 1 285 (13,2 percent) and five deaths were under the age of five years.
“The deaths were reported from Mudzi District in Mashonaland East Province (one), Guruve District in Mashonaland Central Province (two), Chimanimani District in Manicaland Province (three), Hurungwe District in Mashonaland West Province (three), Beitbridge District in Matebeleland South Province (one), Chiredzi District in Masvingo province (one) and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (one).
“The provinces which reported the highest number of malaria cases were Manicaland (5 884) and Mashonaland East (1 680). The cumulative figure for malaria is 41 329 and 52 deaths CFR 0,3 percent,” reads the report.
Week Seven report also indicate that Manicaland and Masvingo recorded the highest number of diarrhoea cases.
