Manicaland schools honoured at inaugural Zimpapers Academic Excellence Awards

TEN top-performing schools in Manicaland Province were today honoured for their exceptional performance in the November 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) examinations at the inaugural Zimpapers Academic Excellence Awards.

The schools were St David’s Bonda Girls High School, St Faith’s Boys High School, St Dominics High School, Holy Ghost High School, Makumbe High School, Frst Class Academy, St Augustines High School, Mount Selinda High School, Sakubva High School and Gaza High School.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Abbiot Maronge, Director in the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Joseph Mashingaidze praised the initiative, saying it recognises the dedication of both learners and educators.

“These awards come as a timely and commendable initiative, serving as a recognition platform and reinforcing the tireless efforts of our educators, learners and administrators,” he said.

Chief Director of Provincial Education Services Mr Richard Gabaza, whose speech was read by schools inspector Mr Fungayi Mudehwe, said the awards would inspire schools to aim higher.

“By recognising academic achievements, we foster a culture of healthy competition, encouraging institutions to push beyond their limits,” he said.

Manica Post Editor Mr Cletus Mushanawani said the awards highlight the importance of education as a driver of national development.

“Today, we gather not only to recognise excellence, but to reaffirm our commitment to education as the cornerstone of our nation’s future,” he said.

School heads welcomed the recognition, describing it as a morale booster.

Mr Caston Samanga, the school head for St David’s Bonda Girls High School said, “This award reflects the hard work of our learners, teachers and parents. It motivates us to maintain high standards.”
