Manicaland wins pool hearts

Answer Sithole Sports Correspondent
TWO Manicaland pool players were named among the top 16 pool players in the country at the National Black Label Pool tournament played in Zvishavane last Saturday
Steven Chingwingwi and Trust Matsikure were the two Manicaland players to progress from the preliminary stages at the tournament which saw over 50 players from across the country participating. Their efforts paid dividends when they were among the last 16, but there were knocked out by Bulawayo players.

Manicaland Pool Association vice-chairperson Taurai Makanidzana said Manicaland players had improved greatly from their previous performances at national level. He said there was need to develop talent by hosting more tournaments and one-on-one challenges.

“Chingwingwi and Matsikure lifted our Manicaland flag high by making it in the last 16. This is an improvement from yesteryears performances. Such performances come with great practice and support from other pool players. This has shown that Manicaland has potential, but there is need to come together as a community of pool players to improve ourselves.

“With the inspiration that we got from these two players we will be having pool challenges for the whole of this coming week. Anyone who can play pool can contact me on 0773 059 279 for further details and have a match with one of the province’s best players.

“This is an initiative that is set to allow raw talent be identified and a platform for pool association to develop them.
“We encourage anyone who wants to challenge to come to the open and see the best that Manicaland has to offer. All these challenges are for free.” said Makanidzana.
