MANICALAND Province has kick-started preparations for the annual National Youth Games in earnest with support from all sectors in motion.
This was revealed at a meeting held this morning where the newly appointed Manicaland Sport and Recreation Development Committee was unveiled by the Minister of State for Manicaland and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza ahead of the launch of a robust provincial wellness and fitness programme to be held this afternoon at Mutare Polytechnic grounds.
Mugadza said: “I am happy that so much has been put together in a short space of time, and I have doubt that the programmes that are lined up ahead will be a success. Sport is crucial to our wellbeing, hence it is my hope that ladies and gentlemen here will do all that they can to ensure a culture of sport, wellness and fitness will permeate across Manicaland Province.”
Prominent farmer and retired multi-talented sports personality, Peter Dombropoulo was appointed Manicaland Sport and Recreation Development Committee chairman – a body expected to spearhead the province’s participation in different national inter-provincial sporting events.
The body is expected to mobilise funding as well as oversee the smooth participation of Manicaland Province in the ongoing fitness and wellness programme, forthcoming National Youth Games to be held in Mashonaland East capital of Marondera, the Zimbabwe National Paralympic Games and the annual Minister of State Sports and Arts Festival.
The committee includes Dombropoulo, his deputy, Emma Mandiziba, secretary, Cousinet Simunyu, committee members – Josiah Borerwe, Masimba Chihowa, Martin Murove, Perpetua Guwila, Hastings Sithole, Attwell Shiridzinomwa and Ray Bande.
