Manjoro leaves for India

Mufakose-born instructor practices the karate style of bino-ryu and his club is an affiliate of Bino-ryu Karate International, whose headquarters is in Hyderabad.
And Manjoro, who is currently a Shihan (fourth-dan blackbelt holder), has once again been invited by the bino-ryu Grandmaster, S. Srinivasan of India, to attend another advanced training and grading camp in Hyderabad.
The camp is set to run from this Friday to April 10 and Manjoro is expected to graduate from this session as a fifth-dan blackbelt holder in the karate style of bino-ryu.
Manjoro was initially supposed to attend the training camp in Hyderabad with two of his students — his son Floyd and Tinotenda Magaso — for their confirmation as second-dan blackbelt holders.
But Floyd and Magaso are no longer travelling to India due to some financial constraints.
“Floyd and Tinotenda are no longer travelling with me to Hyderabad this week for their confirmation classes because we failed to raise the money for their airfares.
“So we’ve made another arrangement which will see them going to Hyderabad for the same mission in November this year,” Manjoro said.
And apart from this “minor setback”, Manjoro said he is looking forward to his latest trip to Hyderabad for the two-week advanced training and grading camp, which will also be attended by other top bino-ryu instructors from around the world.
“This is going to be another intensive training and grading camp and will be conducted by our Grandmaster, S. Srinivasan.
“All the top bino-ryu instructors from all over the world are expected to attend this camp and I think we are all going to come out of it equipped with the latest techniques of the style,” Manjoro said.
Manjoro last visited Hyderabad in August 2009 where he returned armed with a fourth-dan blackbelt after he successfully completed an intensive two-week instructors training and grading programme under S. Srinivasan.
This saw him adding another page to his portfolio of achievements, as he was elevated from an ordinary bino-ryu instructor to a Shihan. A Shihan (Master) is a karate title which is conferred to instructors who are above third-dan blackbelt holders.
After becoming a Shihan, more was to come for Manjoro who, in April 2010, was appointed the Chief Instructor of the bino-ryu style in Africa. The style’s Grandmaster, S. Srinivasan, said at that time that Manjoro was the first bino-ryu instructor to be conferred with the title of Shihan outside India, hence the Bino-ryu Karate International’s decision to appoint him as the Chief Instructor for Africa.
In fact, S. Srinivasan, also pointed out that Manjoro was now a “professor” of bino-ryu, which was a first for karate in this country.
