TWO gardeners, employed at Manna Resorts, appeared in court on theft charges yesterday.

They allegedly took advantage of last week’s fire at the complex and stole over US$2 000 from the offices.

Richman Kamusasa, Simon Kavhiya and their alleged accomplice, Zachariah Phiri, who is not employed by Manna Resorts, appeared before Harare magistrate Munashe Chibanda.

The court heard that last Wednesday, the complainant, Netty Musasa, of Manna Resorts travelled to South Africa and returned on the same day at around 11pm.

Musasa went to her office the next day to check the effects of the fire incident.

She found out that her office property had been moved to another room. However, the money she had kept in a cupboard was missing. She asked Guilty Maneja if he saw anyone taking money from her office. He indicated that he saw the trio taking money from a white wallet. When Maneja asked them what they were doing, Phiri gave him US$2 to keep quiet.

The money stolen was US$2 560 and only US$644 was recovered. Oripar Sagandira appeared for the State.
