MANNA Safari Lodges was recently fined after it failed to submit Value Added Tax to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.
The hospitality firm appeared before Harare magistrate, Lisa Mutendereki, and pleaded guilty to the offence.
The company was represented by Solomon Madziyauswa.
It was ordered to pay a fine of US$400 and failure to comply will result in the issuance of a writ of execution.
The complainant was ZIMRA, which was represented by Nobert Musakwa, its Investigations Officer.
The court heard that in 2012, Madziyauswa formed and registered a company called Manna Safari Lodges (Pvt) Ltd in Zimbabwe.
The company was incorporated during the same year to do the business of offering accommodation, food and beverages services.
Manna Resorts, by virtue of its business, is expected to pay taxes to ZIMRA.
The State proved that between 2019 and 2022, Manna Resorts conducted its business in foreign currency and willfully failed to submit Value Added Tax in foreign currency to ZIMRA, amounting to US$56 440.
In September this year, ZIMRA conducted an investigation into the tax affairs of Manna Safari Lodges (Pvt) Ltd to verify whether the company was tax compliant for the period 2019 to 2022.
It was established that the company had not submitted its VAT in foreign currency for the period 2019 to 2022, amounting to US$56,440.
As a result, ZIMRA suffered tax prejudice and everything was recovered.
