“Manotsha” shebeen owners on the run

Chronicle Reporter

THE owners of the infamous Mpopoma-based Manotsha Shebeen are reportedly on the run after authorities had initially summoned them to answer charges of public nuisance after holding a number of illegal gay parties.

The shebeen which was run by husband and wife Melusi and Sinobukhosi Sibindi had over the months become quite famous for its constant parties and had also become a popular braai spot for mainly the youth.

It was also recently in the eye of the storm after it was revealed that it was also constantly hosting private gay parties where they hosted members of the LGBTI community, which subsequently attracted the wrath of the law.

Police sources revealed that Melusi was initially arrested and appeared in court where he was ordered to appear in court after a week for trial.

“On the said court appearance, Melusi failed to pitch up leading to an arrest warrant issued against him. Police officers later followed up at the said shebeen where they also discovered that his wife Sinobukhosi had also gone into hiding.

“It was also discovered that they had abandoned their premises with their children. Initially Sinobukhosi’s mobile phone was going through with others claiming she had travelled to Beitbridge but later it was not reachable. Investigations are still underway to determine her whereabouts,” said the source.

Investigations by this publication also revealed that Melusi works with a local Non-governmental Organisation where he was a human rights activists.

“We are not sure where he is, he just informed us that he is taking leave days that is the last we saw of him. Even the shebeen is now no longer operational, we are not sure what the reason for this is,” said one of Melusi’s colleagues.
