A 39-year old Zaka man is battling for his life in hospital after a fellow villager allegedly ripped open his stomach with an Okapi knife following an argument over stray cattle.Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Chief Peter Zhanero said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
He said the suspect Agneta Muzvarwi, 27 of Chigudu Village under Chief Ndanga area fled soon after committing the offence
“Muzvarwi is on the run and we have since launched a manhunt and the net is closing in on him,” he said.
He said on the fateful day Jeffrey Chigudu, 39, of the same village, was weeding his fields while Muzvarwi was herding cattle near the fields.
“Chigudu ordered Muzvarwi to drive his cattle away during which an argument ensued resulting in a fight. Muzvarwi pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Chigudu twice on the chin and once on the left side of the stomach,” said Chief Insp Zhanero.
He said Chigudu sustained a deep cut on the chin and his intestines were left protruding. Munashe, 40, brother to Chigudu and a fellow villager, Enoch Gundira, 28, arrived at the scene and found the victim lying in a pool of blood.
Munashe took Chigudu to his homestead where he bandaged him using a T-shirt and then rushed him to Ndanga Hospital. The victim was further transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare and his condition is reported to be critical.
Chief Insp Zhanero urged members of public to refrain from engaging in violence.
