A FIGHT over a prostitute turned tragic when a Bulawayo man had his throat cut with a sharp object and bled to death at Nkulumane Complex parking lot. Vusumuzi Mguni, 30, of Magwegwe North suburb was found dead by patrons from a sports bar at the shopping mall. Witnesses said Mguni had spent Thursday afternoon drinking beer with his suspected assailant(s).

He was found in a pool of blood minutes after leaving the bar, with his throat slit like a goat, they said.
Yesterday, there was a dark patch of congealed blood on the spot where he died despite earlier efforts to wash it away with buckets of water.

Mguni, a pushcart operator at Basch Street Terminus, popularly known as Egodini, had spent the day drinking at the complex with about six other people.
“They seemed to have had a lot of cash as they moved around the complex buying from the shops in a seemingly random manner. In the afternoon they went to Nkulumane Beerhall at the complex where they started drinking opaque beer,” said a shopkeeper.

A patron from the bar said: “Towards evening, a prostitute called Melody joined them and they moved to The Joint where they started drinking clear beer. Around 7PM they started arguing among themselves. The woman seemed to be the centre of the argument.”

The group reportedly went outside to a taxi that was waiting at the parking lot.
“A few minutes later, someone came in saying someone had been killed outside. We rushed to see who it was. A gruesome scene met us. We saw Vusa lying in a pool of blood.

“There was so much blood and it was still flowing from a deep gash on his neck. His throat was slit like that of a goat and he was already dead,” said the patron who identified himself as Bongani.

Police were called and they promptly arrived at the scene.
“His other friends had disappeared. Police arrested Melody and the taxi driver,” said Bongani.
Mguni’s aunt, Andaneta Mguni, said police told them he was stabbed around 11PM.

“We went to Nkulumane Police Station early in the morning to get more details and we were told he died on the spot. We were told he was involved in a fight with someone over a woman. That is all we know,” said Mguni.

She said her nephew would be buried at his rural home in Kezi over the weekend.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident.

“We are investigating a case of murder that happened at Nkulumane Complex on Thursday night. We have arrested two people who are helping police with investigations,” said Insp Moyo.
