MANTAS Tennis Academy juniors gave a good account of themselves at the African Junior Championship being held in South Africa.
They travelled to South Africa last week and are expected to return home this weekend.
Mantas Tennis Academy administrator, Vincent Nyatoti, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.
The team went to South Africa to play at a zonal level where winners will play in Tunisia during the second week of February.
The team was under the tutelage of coaches, Juliet Sibanda and George Dzinorema from the same academy.
The outstanding players are supposed to represent Zimbabwe in the African Junior Championship in February.
Batsirayi Saurombe has been the most outstanding junior player at the competitions.
Michael Happy (Under-12), Estern Sibanda (U-14), Sharlot Zvakime (U-14), Beverly Matsiwe (U-16) and Kimberly Kaume (U-16) are among those chosen to represent Zimbabwe Junior Tennis National Team in Tunisia.
He added that there was still room to those who want to join the academy as more competitions were in tow.
“We catch them young. There is free tennis coaching at Mutare Girls’ High School which started from January 11 (Monday) to January 26 for juniors up to eight years of age. It starts from 2pm to 3.30pm. Adult coaching is also available. Any interested organisation or individuals can approach us or visit us at Mutare Girls’ High tennis courts,” he said.
