MANYAME’S men handball and football teams team led the way for the hosts as they took gold at the ongoing Air Force of Zimbabwe Inter-base games at Manyame Airbase yesterday.
The handball team took gold after winning their two matches against Field Air Force Base and Thornhill Base.
They posted a comfortable 24-3 win over Thornhill and they had to stretch for their experience against FAFB whom they beat 19-10.
There was joy, too, for the men’s football team as the hosts’ officers took gold on superior goal difference over FAFB and Thornhill.
The three sides had been tied on points.
Home advantage seemed to be playing in Manyame teams’ favour as they picked gold in the majority of the sporting disciplines that were on offer, including hockey netball, shooting, volleyball and basketball.
But in the senior non-commissioned officers category, Manyame had to settle for silver when they were held to a 1-1 draw against FAFB and finished with three points.
Earlier, when the teams travelled to Kariba, FAFB took gold in the angling competition as they managed to hook the heavier tiger fish.
FAFB also proved unstoppable in the darts competition when they won two of the three games they played.
The games are scheduled to end today with some entertainment to take place including music.
There will be music provided by some of the top local stars, including Jah Prayzah, as part of a host of activities for what promises to be a fun-filled family day.
