Gospel artist Elizabeth Manyowa’s track Zama has been rocking the airwaves proving she has not lost her chords and vocals as yet.

Manyowa’s debut was in 1998 with “Tsvakai Jehovah”. She grew up at a time when female musicians were pretty much judged and having to stand out was a tough call she took on head-on.

In an interview, Manyowa said her single Zama a motivational song for the weary and tired has been receiving decent airplay on the radio with Manyowa honouring invitations from various radio stations.

“Zama was inspired by my surroundings and life experiences. I have noticed a lot of us tend to give up just as things are about to get better,” she said.

“In this song, I wanted to give hope not only to individuals but to the nation of Zimbabwe also. We have come a long way and should not lose hope.”

Manyowa however bemoaned the lack of support and recognition from various stakeholders within the industry.

“We seek funding and recognition as other artists within the industry. More preference is given to established artists while budding artists are not considered,” she said.

Manyowa is famed for hits such as “Tsvakai Rugare”, “Ndauya”, “Namazuva Ekuipa” featuring Rumbi Zvirikuzhe, “Ndozviudza Ani” featuring Ivy Kombo, “Uthembisile” and “Ungakhal”i featuring Katlego Makanta among other hits
She is currently working on her next singles “Rumbidzo” and “Mhare”.
