Manyuchi romps to victory

WORLD Boxing Council welterweight silver champion Charles Manyuchi beat Deogratias Samwel of Tanzania by unanimous points decision in a non-title fight at the New Government Complex here on Saturday night.

Manyuchi was using the fight to prepare for his mandatory defence of his WBC silver title.

The judges score cards read 80-72, 80-70 and 80-72 in favour of the Zimbabwean.

Supported by a cheering crowd, which included 40 Zimbabweans who had travelled from home courtesy of Manyuchi’s Zimbabwe sponsor, Mr T35, the champion delivered with some straight punches, accurate jabs and hooks.

Manyuchi’s title defence is a home show on September 30.

It was evident here that Manyuchi has become a superstar in this country and he repaid the Zambians with a stylish performance.

The fight was broadcast live on the Zambian National Broadcasting Corporation.
