THE Forestry Commission Board of Commissioners has appointed George Manyumwa as its substantive director-general effective July 15, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the commission, Mr Manyumwa has over 25 years of experience in strategic management and leadership.
He was the deputy director general of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) and has previously worked in both the private and public sectors.
Mr Manyumwa served as general manager at Innscor Fast Foods, general manager for Protea Hotels Namibia and group operations director for the Rainbow Tourism Group in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
His role as deputy director general for Zimparks saw him implement successful turnaround strategies, demonstrating his ability to transform organisational fortunes.
Mr Manyumwa holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Master Class in Business Management and Leadership from the London Graduate School, in addition to various certifications from world-class organisations.
His proven track record, the commission said, includes advocacy for sustainable conservation, biodiversity protection, and community-led natural resource management, along with experience as a Carbon Credits consultant.
“The Forestry Commission Board of Commissioners is excited to announce its appointment of George Manyumwa as the substantive director-general of the Forestry Commission, effective 15 July 2025,” read the statement.
“George Manyumwa brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this new role, boasting over 25 years of experience in strategic management and leadership.
“He has had a specialised focus on conservation and sustainable development in his previous post as Deputy Director General at Zimparks.”
