A LEADING accountant Mr Gladman Sabarauta last week launched the Huneni Sabarauta Scholarship fund for Manzvire Secondary School students in Chipinge in memory of his mother. Mr Sabarauta, who is also a director of BDO Chartered Accountants, assumed the patron post of the school’s speech and debate club.
“I am from Mt Selinda, but it is my desire to help the less privileged members of the society. For some time, I concentrated on the Chirinda area, but the time has come for me to spread my wings further. Importantly, young children must realise that education has the capacity to unleash big body blows on poverty. My dream is that the little money that I use to help these young people would have a huge impact on the lives of these children,’’ he said.
The National Trust for Schools’ Excellence houses the Huneni Scholarships, DM Sabarauta Memorial Tournament and Mukarakate Tournament.
The family spokesperson Mr Pumulani Dube, who happens to be a nephew to Mr Sabarauta said there are annual netball and soccer tournaments in Murehwa and Chipinge held in honour of Gladman Sabarauta and his wife’s parents. They are held concurrently.
“Every year in the penultimate week of July, soccer and netball tournaments are held at Mukarakate Village and Mt Selinda High School in memory of Mr and Mrs Sabarauta’s parents. Only last week at Mt Selinda, Gwenzi Secondary School scooped the netball prize, while Mt Selinda High School took the soccer gong. In the primary school category, Mt Selinda Primary School took the netball honours and Beacon School took the soccer title. Now, apart from those sponsored pupils at various schools in the province and in Mashonaland East, Manzvire Secondary School has joined the fray,’’ he said.
The Huneni Sabarauta Scholarships pay fees for lucky students up to undergraduate level.
At Manzvire, Tichaona Mlambo (Form One) and Gracious Geregere (Form Two) received scholarships from Mr Sabarauta.
“I am delighted at being the proud recipient of an opportunity to reach as far as university. I thank Mr Sabarauta for the very kind gesture and I promise him that I will not disappoint. Definitely, I will redouble my efforts,’’ said Gracious Geregere.
Mr Tapiwa Dhlakama, the headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to the scholarships.
“We are gathered here for a worthy cause. On behalf of the school and the community at large, I would like to express my profound gratitude to Mr Sabarauta on his acceptance to be the patron of the debate and speech club.
He went on to offer scholarships to the two students. We will forever be grateful to him. May God bless you and your family,’’ he added.
