adminHowever, this is now water under the bridge after the organisers managed to get some funds that will see Kuda leave the country this Saturday for the Czech Republic.
Founder and organiser of the Miss Deaf Zimbabwe Medeline Yohane confirmed the latest developments, saying that although they have not been able to secure all the funding necessary for the trip, they were quite confident that Kuda will raise Zimbabwe’s flag high at this grand event that will be held on July 16.
“We are leaving on Saturday, though we are yet to get all the resources needed for our trip.
“We last had Miss Deaf in 2009, when we got a winner to represent the country at a global level. Things, however, took a downward dip and we were not able to continue. We are back this year and I am quite optimistic that we are back for good,” said Medeline.
Medeline has been involved with the Miss Deaf beauty pageant since its inception in 2007 and has groomed various models making them eligible to compete in this event.
Many of her models have found success since then, most notably Audrey Chakara who qualified in the 2007 event which was also held in the Czech Republic.
She came second out of the five African countries that made it and ranked number eight out of the 18 countries around the world that competed. Due to her success in the pageant, Chakara is now based in the Czech Republic.
In 2008 Linda Francis was the only African model to qualify, however, because of a lack of sponsorship she was unable to travel to Europe.
The following year, lack of financial support further hampered the pageant. Instead of competing in the world pageant they decided to host a Miss Deaf Zimbabwe where Biebet Marume won the first pageant of this kind.
Even though models from the country have been recognised and have had constant invitations from the Miss Deaf organisers, could not compete due to the lack of sponsorship.
