FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza was yesterday left fuming after being accused of bribing referees to win matches at Mandava Stadium.
Chapungu assistant coach Clemence Mugari felt the 86th minute penalty that swayed this Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Midlands derby towards FC Platinum was dodgy, and after the final whistle accused Mapeza of being corrupt.
Pure Platinum Play midfielder Winston Mhango converted the spot kick awarded by referee Ruzive Ruzive following a William Ngonya foul on a charging Marshall Mudehwe.
Ruzive appeared to get the call right.
“How can Mugari accuse me of bribing the referee? I am very disappointed by his behaviour. He must know that we are professionals and we work very hard to get these results.
“I think it will be fair to everyone if he comes out clean and proves the allegations he has leveled against us,” said Mapeza in a post-match interview. Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino was also crying foul.
“As for the result I think it’s a case of us losing due to circumstances we can’t control,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Kariba newly promoted side Bulawayo City were left searching for a first Premier Soccer League victory after they drew 1-all against hosts ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga.
Innocent Kutsanzira put City ahead in the fifth minute before Talent Chawapiwa equalized 10 minutes before the break.
ZPC Kariba missed the guidance of veteran coach “Mhofu” Chidzambwa who was in Harare attending a family funeral.
At Luveve, defending champions Chicken Inn and How Mine played out a goalless draw in a Bulawayo derby.
The Gamecocks are now on seven points, two behind new log leaders FC Platinum.
