SCOTTLAND gaffer Norman Mapeza has coached former Warriors captain Willard Katsande and continues to interact with him at a time the latter is making his baby steps into coaching.

He pictures the Kaizer Chiefs legend as someone with the heart and resolve to withstand pressure which are the key components when it comes to the dugout.

And the former FC Platinum gaffer has tipped Katsande to make it big as a technocrat following his recent appointment as the head coach for Northern Region Soccer League side Rangers.

“Firstly I would like to wish him (Katsande) all the best as he embarks on his journey with Rangers Football Club.

“He has already shown that he can be a good coach. He has shown a lot of promise,” said Mapeza. “I think it’s a very good starting point and like I said, I wish him well. He promises to be a very good coach.”

The MCM Northern Region Soccer League is starting next weekend with a lot of teams, as is almost always the case in this league, expected to make a huge shout at Premiership promotion.

Katsande’s own team which was known as Chinhoyi Rangers last year is one of those teams expected to punch hard.

But he will have to do more to match teams like former Premiership champions Black Rhinos who have secured lucrative sponsorship deals from Betterbrands.

Black Rhinos’ sister club Cranborne Bullets have also received a huge financial injection while perennial campaigners like Golden Eagles and Karoi United are still around to influence the direction of the marathon.

Harare City and FC Oden are widely being seen as dark horses while MWOS Under-19 will be ready to be party spoilers once again; having stifled N’ombeyawora’s promotion bid right on the final day of action last year.
