FC Platinum will not take part in the African Champions League as replacements for league champions Chicken Inn who have opted out of the tournament. The platinum miners featured in the tournament in 2012.
“We are not yet ready to take part in the Champions League. We are not going to participate,” club president George Mawere said.
“We missed the championship and we are likely to finish on second position when the curtain comes down tomorrow (this afternoon).
“It (playing in the Champions League) must be on merit. By finishing on number two it means we are not yet ready. There is a lot that we have to do as a club and we have to do it during the break.
‘‘Even we come out number three it means we are not yet ready. We played very well and our aim was to come out on number three.
“We then changed it mid-season to finish in the top four after losing six senior key players. I am happy that our coach Norman (Mapeza) did quite well
“We want to add one or two senior players for next season and all I can say is next year it is going to be our year and that is my message to the FC Platinum family.
“We are going to try by all means to retain the players that we have.”
Mawere has backed Mapeza, his technical team and players.
Meanwhile, Mapeza and his men would want to consolidate their position on the log when the meet relegated Dongo Sawmill at Vengere this afternoon.
“We want to consolidate our position and when we go to Dongo we are expecting positive results,” said Mapeza.
