Urban grooves singer Leonard Mapfumo has engaged several upcoming musicians in his forthcoming album in a bid to promote local talent. The album titled “Ndoita Manyemwe” is set for release later this month and will see upcoming artistes such as T Sheme, Trey XL, Vannesa, Elliot and Magen’a featuring.
Top local musicians like Taurai Mandebvu, Mudiwa, Arnold Gara and Cindy also collaborate on the project.
Mapfumo said he has finished the project.
“I have worked with a number of upcoming artistes on my new album in a bid to give them the all needed exposure. I know there is a lot of talent out there but if these upcoming artistes fail to get exposure, they may just fizzle out,” he said.
Mapfumo said the main reason was to promote local talent.
“Exposure is the main challenge in such a sector. To me it is a blessing in disguise working with upcoming artistes because I will be learning a thing or two from them and vice versa,” he said.
The “Madei” hitmaker said the album was a stepping stone for some of the artistes.
“This is not the first time to work with upcoming artistes as I have worked with the likes of Shinsoman when they were relatively unknown and I’m really proud that now he has found the going good.
“It is also my dream that with time the new artistes will one day become shining stars,” said Mapfumo.
He said seasoned musicians should groom their upcoming counterparts.
“Success is when somebody sees you on another level but you become successful when those you have worked with are reaching success.
“It’s a responsibility to groom these upcoming musicians because some of us are a result of collaborations with other prominent musicians,” he said.
