Maphisa mining firm donates 21 beasts towards Independence Day celebrations

INYAMAZANE Gold Mine, a gold mining entity in Maphisa, has donated 21 beasts that will feed the more than 50,000 people expected for the Independence Day celebrations in Matabeleland South Province on Saturday.

Cde Joseph Mpasi, the Shurugwi North Member of Parliament MP), who is one of the directors of Inyamazane Gold Mine, presented the donation at a local abattoir near Bulawayo yesterday.

This comes as preparations for the main Independence celebrations in Maphisa, Matabeleland South are now 98 percent complete, with only final clean-up work and debris removal remaining at the venue.

This vear’s Uhuru celebrations will be held under the theme: “Zim@46 – Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030″, which is both reflective and forward-looking deliberately linking the liberation legacy to Zimbabwe’s contemporary development ambitions.

President Mnangagwa will lead the commemorations with a keynote address.

‘AS one of the leading investors in gold mining in Maphisa, we made a decision to donate 21 beasts that will feed the crowds on Independence Day in Maphisa It’s our way as a company to ensure that the celebrations are a r resounding success,” said Cde Mpasi.

“Inyamazane Gold Mine will pay for the charges at the abattoir as well as transportation for the meat to the venue.”

Matabeleland South Province Permanent Secretary, Mrs Latiso Dlamini-Maseko, said the27 beasts donated by Invamazane Gold Mine bring together a total of 65 cattle that will be slaughtered for the event.

“We have had an overwhelming response in terms of donations that are pouring in from companies parastatals and individuals for the Independence Dav celebrations,”‘ she said.

“It is the benevolence of companies such as Inyamazane Gold Mine that will ensure that we have a very successful Independence Day celebration.”

Meanwhile, speaking to Zimpapers in an interview at the main celebrations venue on Tuesday, site manager Engineer Sean Mukwamba said it was all systems go ahead of Saturday’s event.

“In terms of preparations for the celebrations on Saturday, we a two are 98 percent done. The remaining and percent involves cleaning up We removing debris from the site have completed the pitching of tents for both VIPs and public,” said Eng Mukwamba

He said the ablution facilities are already in place, with only a few electrical installations left to be finalised before the event.

“For electricity, systems have already been put in Place. There will be multiple redundancy systems for power. Besides the main power supply, we have about three generators on standby,” he said

Water provision has also been adequately addressed. A total of six 20,000-litre tanks have been installed for irrigation, along with three additional 20,000-litre tanks dedicated to maintaining the stadium turf.

Furthermore, 15 drinking water taps have been set up across the venue.

“All water infrastructure has been installed by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa),” said Eng Mukwamba.
