MARTIN Mapisa’s comeback story keeps getting better. The MWOS goalkeeper has been in outstanding form this season, and his consistency has earned him a well-deserved call-up to the Warriors squad.
With 15 clean sheets to his name, Mapisa sits just one behind Simba Bhora’s William Thole, who leads the league with 16. His performances have not only anchored MWOS’ impressive debut Premiership campaign but have also reignited belief in his talent following a difficult spell abroad.
After a frustrating stint in Spain, Mapisa returned home last year to join Dynamos, where he played a key role in helping the Glamour Boys lift the Chibuku Super Cup. This year, he has become the cornerstone of MWOS’ defence, emerging as one of the most dependable goalkeepers in the league.
Now part of the Warriors camp in Saudi Arabia, Mapisa is relishing the opportunity to finally make his mark at international level. With Zimbabwe set to face Algeria and Qatar in friendlies, he hopes to earn his first start under new coach Marian “Super Mario” Marinica.
“I have worked hard to get to this point, and I am ready to give my best if given the chance,” said Mapisa.
The 25-year-old believes his form and maturity have prepared him for this stage, though he remains respectful of the senior goalkeepers in camp.
“At the moment, I am not putting myself under pressure. I have more experienced colleagues in the fold, so I’m using this opportunity as a learning curve,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey, Mapisa said MWOS’ season mirrors his own story of resilience and quiet determination.
“When the season began, only a few gave us a chance as MWOS. Many took us as relegation material. But we’ve worked hard to defy the odds and change how people view this team. Now with a game to go, I want to give my best so that we finish on a high note. For now, my focus is on the national team, and I’m elated with the commitment being shown by everyone in camp,” he said.
