A TOTAL of eight high schools in Marange Cluster benefitted from a rugby coaching clinic organised by Manicaland Rugby Board recently.The coaching clinic was conducted by former Marange High School student, Brendon Chombo, who is also Mountain Lions Rugby coach.
Chombo is also the physical fitness coach for the Zimbabwe rugby national team as well as Manicaland Rugby Board provincial development officer.
The eight schools, Marange High School (hosts), Chikwariro, Holy Ghost College, Karirwi, Mushunje, Shundure, Matanda and Nharira had two teams each, one for boys and the other one for girls.
Participants were taken through basic rugby drills.
MRB chairman, Josiah Borerwe, said he was impressed by the enthusiasm showed by the participants.
Borerwe said two teams from Marange Cluster would be formed. They will play other urban teams in tournaments scheduled for next season.
“The teams will include one for boys and one for girls. These teams will play against other urban school teams and clubs in different tournaments scheduled for next season.
“Best players will also be drafted into the Manicaland Select team that will be participating in the annual Dairibord Tournament that is held in Harare during the August school holiday,” said Borerwe.
Chombo who was also seconded to conduct coaching clinics in Marange, Chimanimani and Chipinge, said he was also impressed by the untapped talent in rural schools.
“Most players have shown great potential.
I believe this cluster will have one strong team that will give opponents a good run for their money,” said Chombo.
MRB also donated 10 rugby balls to the Marange cluster for them to continue training.
