LEGENDARY Dynamos player Desmond Maringwa is today expected to be unveiled as the new Harare giants’ assistant coach, taking over from Tonderayi Ndiraya, sources revealed last night. The long serving Ndiraya threw in the hat after irreconcilable differences with head coach Callisto Pasuwa and the club yesterday formally accepted his resignation although in the letter Ndiraya said he resigned to concentrate on his studies.
“We met both coaches today (yesterday) and we resolved to accept Ndiraya’s letter of resignation after noting that Pasuwa was adamant that he no longer wanted to work with Ndiraya,” said Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa.
He said from the discussion it emerged that the differences were being fuelled from within the Dynamos family. The Dynamos chairman said insubordination on the part of Ndiraya had finally forced Pasuwa to dig in and recommend that he be removed from the first team bench.
In his letter though, Ndiraya, who was assistant to former coach Elvis Chiweshe said he was preparing for examinations in November.
“I wish to inform you of my resignation from the post of assistant coach with immediate effect. This has been necessitated by my desire to further my studies and would not wish to offer divided attention to both my current job and the studies I am pursuing. I am writing examinations in November.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank the board and the executive for the opportunities, professional and personal development that the club has offered me during my tenure as the assistant coach. I also want to sincerely thank coach Callisto, for the knowledge and experience he gave me, the entire technical team and the secretariat for their warm support and the whole Dynamos family for making my stay at this great club an unforgettable one,” wrote Ndiraya.
The Dynamos boss said while the latest turn of events was indeed worrying for his treble chasing team, there was little that they could do to stamp their authority even if they would have wanted Ndiraya to stay.
“Had we said no to Ndiraya’s letter, we would have given the coach a leeway to point at us in the event that results fail to come but now since we have acceded to his request the ball is squarely in his court,” said Mubaiwa.
Meanwhile, one of the most loyal sons at the Glamour Boys, Maringwa is tipped to replace Ndiraya with another Dynamos loyal kid Murape Murape’s name also being touted. Former DeMbare assistant coach, now deputising at struggling Motor Action David George is also said to be in Pasuwa’s plans.
Sources close to the DeMbare dressing room revealed that Pasuwa would settle for Maringwa who has a huge influence in the DeMbare camp including the supporters. Fears are that George and Pasuwa might not gel as expected, especially with the turbulent Dynamos ship.
“I think Maringwa will land the post. Pasuwa wants someone who is moderate while also appealing to both sides, the players and supporters and Gazza fits that bill,” said a source.
Mubaiwa said they have given the mandate to choose an assistant to Pasuwa so that a similar situation is avoided.
“The onus is on him to appoint his assistant and he promised that by tomorrow (today) he would have done that,” said Mubaiwa who has survived many coup attempts at the club.
Last month, there were reports that knives were out for the Dynamos chairman with the masterminds also allegedly targeting head coach Pasuwa.
Dynamos are lying third on the log standings and made their intentions of retaining the league title very clear by signing a total of six new players during the just closed second transfer window.
They are still in the BancABC Sup8r Cup after dispatching Buffaloes and with the Mbada Diamonds Cup yet to come, DeMbare can still claim a treble.
