VETERAN golf administrator Marita Kahwema has bounced back as the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf union president.
Kahwema, who once served as the association’s president in 2011, has returned for another two-year term, taking over from Olivia Nyamwanza.
“I’m deeply honoured and humbled by the trust the members of the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf union have placed on me.
“It’s a privilege to serve, and I don’t take the responsibility lightly. There’s a strong legacy in ZLGU and my focus is on building on that while moving the union forward,” she said.
Kahwema said she has several issues to solve during her time at the helm of ZLGU.“My priorities are threefold as I look forward to growth, that is to continue working to increase participation at grassroots and tap into the many bodies developing junior golf to ensure no one is left behind and make the game more accessible to women and girls across Zimbabwe.
“I also want development so that we strengthen player pathways, coaching, and seek competitive opportunities so that our female golfers can excel locally, regionally and internationally. “
She added:“Governance is also part of my targets as I want to ensure that there is transparency, efficient administration that supports clubs, players, and sponsors.
“We want ZLGU to be a union every member is proud of.
“Having served in ZLGU before, I understand the structures, the challenges, and the opportunities. That experience means we don’t have to start from zero. I know where the bottlenecks have been and where collaboration with clubs, Sports Commission, Zimbabwe Golf Association and the Royal and Ancient, junior golf development bodies and sponsors works best. “I plan to use those lessons to hit the ground running, streamline communication and deliver on member priorities faster.
“I’m excited for what’s ahead and look forward to working with all stakeholders to grow ladies’ golf in Zimbabwe.”
