Marondera courts private firms to fix roads

Zimbabwean firm Almaxtec and Australian company Almax Devine Care have tabled a proposal to the Municipality of Marondera to invest in the expansion of the town’s roads and the water and sewer treatment plants.

This comes as the Mashonaland East provincial capital has been actively seeking investors to address service delivery challenges in the wake of a population boom which the town is battling to cope with.

Council believes involving private investors is a prudent and quick solution to a myriad of challenges as it seeks to respond to the demand from central Government for improved service delivery under the theme “A Call to Action: No Compromise to Service Delivery.”

In a statement, council said it was confident about attracting investment to address most of its development concerns and achieve all service delivery objectives.

“The council seeks to transform itself into a vibrant smart city of service excellence and securing investment in various sectors will help realise that vision,” said council.

Almaxtec Consulting managing director Mr Wonderful Chagona said in undertaking the upgrading of roads, and the water and sewer treatment plants, they were aiming to deliver comprehensive turnkey solutions.

“In undertaking the works on the Marondera water treatment works and the road repair and upgrade projects, we intend to form joint ventures with Australian companies that have demonstrated interest and capabilities in water treatment and road infrastructure,” he said.
