Marondera municipality put in place measures to curb water shortages

The municipality of Marondera is working towards addressing the water challenges that are bedevilling the farming town.

Mashonaland East’s provincial capital is home to about 63 000 residents and the population’s demand for portable water is higher than what the local authority is currently supplying.

Currently, the town’s water treatment plant has the capacity to produce 13.5 mega litres of water per day, against a demand of 27 mega litres.

This has seen the council delivering water to residents on a rotational basis.

To curb the challenge, the local authority has started to install modular tanks in various suburbs across the town.

In a recent interview, Marondera Municipality town clerk, Mr Rinashe Nyamuzihwa said plans to expand the water treatment plant to meet the demand are now at an advanced stage, adding that several companies are keen to partner them on the project.
