Government workers and other parastatals in Mashonaland West Province this Wednesday took some time off to take care of their health through participating in aerobics sessions as well as football and volleyball matches.

The Minister of Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo led proceedings at the Provincial Health and Wellness event at Chinhoyi High School.

She spoke passionately about the need to dissuade sedentary lifestyles that lead to chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cancers, among others.

This comes at a time when the Public Service Commission (PSC) is in the process of reviewing the Health and Wellness Policy to include other aspects of wellness, including psychological and emotional factors.

Speaking at the Mashonaland West Provincial Health and Wellness event this morning, Minister Chombo said the policy will address other emerging issues such as drug and substance abuse.

“I am reliably informed that the PSC is in the process of reviewing the Health and Wellness Policy to include other salient important psychological, interpersonal and emotional factors,” she said.

Testing for non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as HIV, was also available at the health and wellness event.
