GOSPEL musician Comment Marowa says he wants to be the next Charles Charamba.
The 41-year-old artist, who was recently diagnosed with a rare health condition caused by Vitamin B deficiency, is determined to overcome his challenges and spread the word of God through his music.
Marowa has since released his debut album titled “Return Call’, which calls on believers and non-believers to have faith in God.
“I have learnt a lot from Pastor Charles Charamba, not only because he comes from my home area, but because he has managed to touch the hearts of millions with his music.
“I am following in his footsteps and my dream is to ensure that I make an impression in whatever I do.
“I want to be remembered as one of the finest praise and worship singers Zimbabwe has ever had.”
Recorded at Cymplex Studios, the album carries seven tracks namely “Mamhepo,” “Higher Level,” “Mumoyo,” “Gumbeze Ndakupa,” Tsika Mutanda,” “Gomorrah” and “Anorarama”.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Marowa shared his vision of using gospel music as therapy.
He believes he finds sanctuary in the Bible.
“Gospel music can be therapeutic if sung from the bottom of the heart. Of course, we rely on biblical scriptures, but there is also a need for artists to be creative by amplifying the lyrics.
“In this album, I am tackling several themes ranging from hope and love to having faith in the Lord at all times.
“I am a living testimony after being diagnosed with a rare condition caused by Vitamin B deficiency.
“Despite my condition, which requires me to have constant medical check-ups, I have decided to worship the Lord, who is my comforter and healer.”
The lanky performer, who has invested heavily in visuals, firmly believes that videos can change his career.
“We are now living in an era where the technological revolution has gathered momentum. As such, we need to embrace technology and fully utilise it by uploading our music online.
“All my songs have beautiful videos accompanying them, and one can easily access them online by simply clicking on my YouTube account.
“To other musicians who are yet to embrace technology, it’s never too late for them to upload their music online.
“I also urge them to continue reinventing the wheel by embracing technology to reach out to many people.”
A devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Marowa revealed that new songs come to him naturally.
“I always find time to pray and meditate, which has become my inspiration in creating good music.
Most of the songs that I have written and composed come to me naturally.
“Whenever I have a new melody in my mind, I make sure I record it on my phone and then proceed to the studio to record it while it is fresh,” said Marowa.
He added:
“It might sound strange but the creation process of new songs comes to us in mysterious ways.
“There are some who dream of new songs and it is possible since their minds are always centred on new ideas they dream about every day.”
A proud father of three—two girls and one boy—Marowa, who started off as a footballer before pursuing music, wants to leave a legacy for his family.
“It’s every person’s dream to create memories to be cherished for years to come.
“In my case, I am praying every day for God to bless them in their endeavours and for them to follow in my footsteps when it comes to worshiping the Lord.
“I will only be grateful once all this is fulfilled and only God knows my destiny and what I am yearning for in my career.”
Blessed with a unique songwriting technique, flawless vocals, and a keen ear for good music, Marowa is simply destined for the stars.
