A Harare man separated with his wife following a misunderstanding over how she spent US$50 he gave her, the Civil Court heard on Friday. Rudo Chidunga said her husband, Tichaona Marowa, chased her away from their matrimonial home following the altercation. Chidunga dragged Marowa to court seeking custody of the couple’s children aged eight and 14.

“He is now staying in Kariba with his new wife together with our children. I want the court to grant me custody of those two children because they are not in safe hands,” she said.

Chidunga told magistrate Ms Babra Masinire that she separated with Marowa last year in April after he chased her away from their matrimonial home following a misunderstanding over the US$50 bill.

Marowa denied the allegations levelled against him by Chidunga.
He claimed Chidunga was not a good mother capable of taking care of the children. “I took the children with me because she was failing to take proper care of them while we were together,” he said.

Marowa said Chidunga used to frequent South Africa and Botswana, leaving their eight-year-old ill child unattended. “Our eight-year-old son is of ill health but my wife was in the habit of going to South Africa and Botswana, leaving her alone,”,said Marowa.

He said he parted ways with Chidunga last year because she misused his money while he was ill. Magistrate Masinire ordered Marowa to bring the 14-year-old child to court next Tuesday.
