MARRIED WOMAN DEVELOPS COLD FEET

A MARRIED woman yesterday failed to appear in court for a maintenance upward variation she’d applied for against her ex-husband.

Filda Mushonga had applied for an upward variation for child support for her 11-year-old from local businessman, Preston Maporisa.

Mushonga had been denying Maporisa access to the child.

She was also accused of blocking the child from being enrolled in a boarding school to prevent Maporisa from meeting the child.

According to Maporisa, Mushonga has been demanding money, in addition to the maintenance, behind her current husband’s back.

Maporisa had threatened to expose her love for money to her current husband after she filed an application demanding US$800 monthly.

A Chitungwiza magistrate issued a default judgment in favour of Maporisa.

Maporisa’s lawyer, Simon Mupindu, told H-Metro that his client was ordered to pay school fees and all requirements for the child at a boarding school of his choice.

“Filda applied for an upward variation of maintenance she was receiving from my client,” said Mupindu.

“She did not attend court and the magistrate gave a default judgment.

“Filda will continue to receive the money she had been receiving.

“My client has been denied access to the child and today the magistrate ordered him to pay school fees and other educational requirements for a boarding school.

“During the holiday, the two will have equal access to the child and each one of them will be responsible for the upkeep of the child in his or her custody.

“Her demand of US$800 was not considered,” said Mupindu.

Mushonga told H-Metro that Maporisa had threatened to expose her demands to her current husband and humiliate her in court.

“I applied for an upward variation because the maintenance was too little to cover everything for the child,” said Mushonga.

“The child’s health condition is not good for a boarding school since it needs my daily care.

Maporisa described his ex-wife as a ‘gold digger’ considering that they divorced when he was not yet gainfully employed.
