MARSHALL Munetsi has hailed his French team, Stade de Reims, for their family environment, which helped him score his first goal on Wednesday.

The midfielder became the first Zimbabwean footballer to score in Europe’s Big Five leagues this season.

He was on target in Stade de Reims’ 4-2 victory at Angers.

Munetsi played the entire game as a central midfielder

He scored in the 23rd minute, after he ran into space unmarked, and received a through ball on the edge of the box, which he buried at the far post, to open the scoring.

“It was amazing team spirit, which led us to get our first victory of the season.

“It’s something that makes us happy that we’ve finally managed to win after four games, in which we were unsuccessful, in collecting maximum points.

“I’m happy that I also managed to score my first goal of the season for Stade de Reims.”

He added:

“I’m glad that I managed to contribute to the win, and I just hope that I will keep on scoring, God willing.

“We keep going as a team and I’m hopeful that we will start collecting maximum points more because we want to finish in a better position than last season.

“My wish is to also help my team achieve its targets and to work harder, and do all I can for the team and to get some game time,” he said.

The midfielder got a yellow card for a crude challenge, a minute into the second half.

The booking was his second, after being cautioned, in the match against Strasbourg.

He made 24 passes with a success rate of 69 percent.

Reims are 14th on the log, with five points from one win, two draws and two losses.
