Masdar Abu Dhabi Renewable Energy Company has expressed strong interest in partnering with Zimbabwe to accelerate the country’s energy transition.
Speaking after paying a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the ongoing World Governments Summit here, Masdar chief executive officer Mr Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi described Zimbabwe as a priority market for Masdar and its renewable energy platform, Infinity Power. He affirmed the company’s intent to deploy significant capital into large-scale clean energy projects that could help decarbonise the country’s power system.
“It is an honour to meet the President here in Dubai during the World Governments Summit hosted by the United Arab Emirates,” said Mr Al Ramahi, highlighting the productive nature of Masdar’s engagement with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwean delegation.
He reiterated the company’s commitment to working “closely with the Government of Zimbabwe to invest in renewable energy in the country, with the support of the Government and under the leadership of the President and his Government.”
Mr Al Ramahi said Masdar anticipates an imminent visit to Zimbabwe to further explore investment opportunities and “deploy capital to decarbonise the system and provide sustainable, competitive renewable energy into Zimbabwe”, potentially positioning the country as a regional clean energy hub.
“We are at the beginning of a journey,” he added, expressing confidence in the long-term partnership and Masdar’s eagerness to invest “as much capital as possible into the country” in support of sustainable development.
Zimbabwe’s participation at the Summit goes beyond discussions on future governance and reaffirms the Second Republic’s policy of welcoming foreign investment, particularly in critical infrastructure sectors such as power generation.
