Mash Central elections a circus

Dickson Mafios
Things are not moving well because you know, the conduct of the elections for the party is just a circus because there are no rules and regulations to guide us through and through and as we speak the announcement of the results is just a comedy to us because you know, you can’t have a person who conducted the election not announcing the results, the results are being  announced by a person who did not even participate.

For instance in Midlands, when they conducted their provincial elections, it  was Mai Olivia Muchena who announced the outcome of the election and in Manicaland it was Honourable Minister Mnangagwa who announced the outcome of the election.

And in our case we are now compelled to have the announcement in Harare as if we are an extension of Harare.
We are a province with a provincial capital, which is Bindura.

Cde Rugare Gumbo acting as, I mean, team leader, and apart from that, as secretary for information and publicity, he should have taken a courtesy to consult with the candidates on how these elections were conducted and let all candidates confirm how the elections were conducted and let the results be displayed right on the walls of the polling stations.

But him himself, should have acted as a public relations so that he would bring the participatory teams together and unite the province which has been stronger for the past years, since independence.

But now you know, we are surprised that results can be announced when there are other instructions on the ground to suggest that areas where people did not vote must vote the following day, such an instruction was  defied and people could not vote up to this date and the figures, they are exaggerated and you don’t understand how such a revolutionary party can be engaged in such kind of a conduct which is highly suspicious.

The way forward is that we want a thorough, you know, free and fair election where we can actually have access to all ballot papers and recount and verify the figures that have been announced and know how many people voted in a given ward and apart from that we want those districts which did not vote, to vote and exercise their democratic right.

That is what we all want from the Commissariat Department, to give us the date for the election for the remaining areas which did not vote.

Cde Dickson Mafios is the incumbent chairman of Mashonaland Central Province where his challenger Cde Luke Mushore was unofficially announced winner in provincial elections held recently. This is an excerpt of an interview he had with Zi-FM Stereo.
