Mash Central ready to host NAAZ events

MASHONALAND Central Athletics Board secretary general Luckmore Changachirere says all is set for the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe Cross Country Championships pencilled for Saturday in Bindura.

All provinces are expected be part of the event.

“In terms of preparations we are now at an advanced stage. I think all is now set for the day.

“We are fielding athletes in all categories, we have Under-12s cadets, then we have Under-16s, Under-18s and Under-20, then seniors,” said Changachirere.

The national event presents a platform for the selection of athletes to represent the country at the World Cross Country Championships next year in January, in the United States.

Senior men and women will compete in 10km while Under-20 men will be up for the 8km race and the women battle it out in 6km.

As part of development and entertainment, the competition also includes the Under-18 men and women taking part in the 6km and 4km races respectively.

There is also a 1km race for Under-12 boys and girls while Under-16s will line up for 2km.

For 40 years and above men and women, there is also a 2km race on offer.

The cross country championships, to take place in the morning will be followed by the NAAZ Excellence Awards in the afternoon.
