THE Ministry of Health and Child Care has confirmed that 104 cases of cholera have been recorded in Mashonaland Central with one death in the Mazowe District.
Deputy Minister Sleiman Timios Kwidini and officials from the ministry and other stakeholders toured Glendale in Mazowe District following an outbreak of cholera in the area on December 21, last year.
In a statement, the Ministry said:
“104 cases and one death have been recorded to date and 5000 doses of Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) have been administered.
“The causes of the cholera outbreak were as a result of erratic water supplies, unattended burst sewer pipes and consumption of water from shallow wells.”
The Ministry said in order to address water shortages in the area National Aids Council pledged to drill two boreholes in Glendale and install two 5 000 litre tanks at Mazowe Flowers Compound.
