MASHONALAND Central Province will have a rare opportunity to partner with a Chinese province in a sports development exchange programme. The province will be the first to benefit from a deal that will see them sharing ideas with experts from the World Federation of Sports Goods Industries and a Chinese province.

Leading sports consultant, Sherpard Chiware, will be leaving for China tomorrow for a meeting with Xu Zwengi, a consultant expert.
“We will have Mashonaland Central Province for the pilot project and we hope to spread the idea to all the provinces,” said Chiware. There is need to resuscitate sport and give youth in provinces vocational and life skills which will be done in provincial centres.

“The idea is good for sports development and if the pilot project in Mashonaland Central is successful we will consider other provinces.
“The provinces have been failing to have a funding model, so incorporating the WFSGI will help to establish sustainable projects, which may end sponsoring sports at national level.”

Mashonaland Central Province sports co-ordinator James Maganga said they were happy to sign a Memorandum of Understanding which will see them working with the Chinese province.

“We have the support of the Mashonaland Central province community and we are happy with the progress so far.
“There is need to incorporate the government and corporates for sponsorship but given this opportunity we may end up sustaining ourselves.

“We have several projects that need support like the upcoming Paralympics Games to be held in Marondera, Youth games set for Masvingo and the YES Games in Mutare,” Maganga said.
