MASHONALAND West province clinched the the National Paralympic Games that ended in Gwanda yesterday. Mashonaland West grabbed 14 gold, 15 silver and 18 bronze medals beating the Midlands into second place. The Midlands managed 11 gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Masvingo were third (nine gold, 15 silver, 10 bronze) followed by Bulawayo (seven gold, 17 silver, 13 bronze). Mashonaland Central were fifth and the hosts Matabeleland South settled for sixth place with six gold, two silver and nine bronze medals.
Manicaland, Harare, Mashonaland East and Matabeleland North occupied the three last positions.
Sport and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane said it was imperative for the government to continue enhancing capacity for sport delivery in disability sport to benefit both individuals and the nation.
“Government has over the years been improving the legislative and policy framework to empower people with disabilities across all sectors. The adoption of the new Constitution further reinforced this positive stance by the government. As you might be aware, an exercise is underway to align the current legislation with this Constitution,” said Hlongwane.
