THE Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial leadership is making great strides in mobilising people to vote ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections, as more than 300 000 people have registered so far, against a Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) target of 460 000. In an interview, Mashonaland West Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Cde Ephraim Chengeta said the leadership was doing a great job of using the party structures to mobilise people to register to vote.

“We have so far registered more than 300 000 people and we are on course to surpass the provincial set target of 460 000,” he said. Cde Chengeta, however, urged the party leadership to carry on with the spirited efforts of urging people to register to vote.

“We are only left with less than seven to eight months before next year’s harmonised elections, therefore we need to convince our electorate to vote for us as time is no longer on our side,” he said. The party’s provincial secretary for administration, Cde Simbarashe Ziyambi, also noted that party members were supposed to be a united ahead of the 2018 elections.

“A lot has been happening in the party over the past period, but let’s have a common goal and heal the wounds. All those with issues should follow party procedures to handle their differences. Let’s unite,” he said. As of last week, Hurungwe and Kariba had registered 120 000 people, while Zvimba and Makonde having registered 125 000.

Mashonaland West Province was the first to endorse Zanu-PF First Secretary Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of next year’s elections, following his appointment as the party leader a week ago.
